This interactive training equips clinicians with a practical, evidence-informed framework for understanding and responding to self-harming behaviors and related ideations. Drawing from theories of innate stress responses, survival mechanisms, and emotional regulation, participants will gain strategies to identify underlying drivers of self-harm, strengthen clinical assessment skills, and implement effective first-line psychological interventions.
Designed for clinicians at all career stages, this conversational training emphasizes psychological first aid, providing clear, actionable guidance for responding effectively and compassionately in the moment while supporting client safety and stabilization.
Learning Objectives
1. Differentiate at least three underlying factors that contribute to self-harming behaviors during clinical assessment and explain how these inform treatment planning
2. Apply principles from stress and survival response theories to conceptualize three forms of client presentations involving self-harm and associated ideation
3. Develop and implement at least three first-line psychological interventions tailored to client needs based on assessment findings and safety considerations
