This advanced clinical training explores the application of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy with individuals experiencing obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety disorders, and phobic responses. Participants will examine how maladaptively stored experiences, fear-based learning, and distressing memories may contribute to the development and maintenance of obsessive-compulsive symptoms and phobic avoidance behaviors. The training will review current research regarding EMDR and OCD treatment outcomes while exploring the integration of EMDR alongside evidence-based approaches such as Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP).
Participants will explore practical applications of EMDR for intrusive thoughts, contamination fears, panic responses, avoidance patterns, and trauma-related obsessive features. The training will also address ethical considerations, case conceptualization, treatment planning, and current limitations within the research literature, including distinctions between trauma-driven obsessive symptoms and primary OCD presentations. Clinicians will leave with practical interventions and integrative strategies for working with clients experiencing OCD and phobias.
