What is the ARC Model?

The ARC Integrative Model is a structured decision-making framework used to guide supervision in real time. It is designed to help supervisors assess supervisee needs, select appropriate supervisory responses, and integrate relational, cultural, and contextual factors into their professional practice, accomplished through three main components:

ASSESSMENT

Continuously evaluate the supervisee’s developmental needs, skill level, confidence, and autonomy. This ensures the supervision style matches the supervisee’s exact learning stage.

RESPONSE

Tailoring the supervisory intervention to the specific needs of the supervisee. Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, supervisors shift flexibly between being a teacher, a counselor, or a consultant.

CONTEXT

Taking into account the broader environment, including organizational culture, power dynamics, multicultural factors, and the specific clinical setting where the supervisee works.
