This will be an experiential training so please dress comfortably!
This training is designed to help therapists learn practical strategies to help clients learn to regulate stress responses gently and efficiently. These strategies are designed to be able to build up the client toolbox of coping skills they can utilize for themselves outside of the office. Clinicians will learn about polyvagal theory and root causes of anxiety and stress responses, identify which techniques to use when, and help clients effectively calm the nervous system. The first hour and a half will be focused on theory and planning and the second will be spent practicing various techniques to build familiarity and comfort.
1. Explain 3 key differences between the parasympathetic and sympathetic responses
2. Identify at least 3 physiological expressions of stress by the body
3. Utilize 3 different breathing techniques to relax the body or energize the body
4. Pair at least 1 movement-based technique to each of the stress responses
5. Select at least 1 sensory based regulation skill for each of the 7 senses
6. Demonstrate 3 rounds of tapping with the Emotional Freedom Technique

Hi! I’m Sara Mellado Murdock, owner and founder of True Vine Therapy. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor here in the great state of Texas. I am also an Equine Assisted Mental Health Practitioner, Integrative Medicine Mental Health Provider, and Trauma Therapist. I moved to Texas 6 years ago from Colorado where I worked for over 8 years with at-risk children, teens, and young adults with significant trauma experiences and involvement in the Child Protective Services and Juvenile Justice System, as well as adults with traumatic brain injuries. I have been working as a full time Crisis Intervention Counselor at a local high school in addition to my private practice.
I am married, with 4 children, 2 cats, 4 chickens, and a horse! I love animals and nature and in my experience have found the more we practice the coping skills we talk about the better we get at them and the faster and more effective we heal ourselves. I seek to meet all my clients where they are and find their skills and gifts and help them find healing in their body and mind with their own gifts and strength. I get asked a lot why and how I do what I do. It’s an honor and privilege to walk through some of the most difficult times in my clients’ lives because I know they can and will find peace. That is why I do what I do!
