This advanced training provides EMDR clinicians with innovative and practical strategiesto enhance Phase 2 resourcing and stabilization within the EMDR protocol. Building on foundational EMDR skills, this workshop focuses on strengthening client readiness, tailoring interventions for complex trauma presentations, andexpanding the therapist’s clinical toolkit to support emotional regulation, safety, and engagement within a client’s window of tolerance. 

Through a combination of didactic instruction, case examples, and experiential practice, participants will gain the confidence to integrate flexible, creative, and evidence-informed approaches into their Phase 2 work. Designed for clinicians who have completed EMDR basic training, this course equips participants with concrete tools to optimize client outcomes and deepen their clinical effectiveness in preparation for trauma processing. 

Objectives: 

  1. Describe the clinical rationale, goals, and functions of Phase 2 within the EMDR protocol and two examples its role in enhancing client readiness for trauma processing.
  2. Demonstrate at least three innovative resourcing techniques designed to enhance stabilization, safety, and self-regulation for clients with complex trauma presentations.
  3. Apply clinical reasoning to select, adapt, and implement three Phase 2 interventions that align with each client’s unique needs, strengths, and therapeutic goals within the EMDR framework.

Ashlee has been a private practice counselor in Texas since 2013.  Often joined by her psychiatric service dog, Winston- who is trained to facilitate the therapeutic process for clients- she provides therapy to individuals and families of all ages, beginning at birth. Her specialties include treatment of complex trauma and dissociative disorders, working with helping professionals, and providing care to clients with various treatment-resistant presentations.  In addition to private practice, her professional experience includes a year working at a Texas Children’s Advocacy Center, 4 years providing therapy to children within the public school system, and 10 years working at a public University in Texas, first as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and Guest Lecturer, followed by 9 years as an Adjunct Instructor.
