PRE-REQUISITES:
This training requires participants to first take an EMDR basic training before taking this advanced training. Participants are required to be post basic training, however are not required to be certified in EMDR.
DESCRIPTION:
This advanced clinical training explores the application of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy with individuals experiencing obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety disorders, and phobic responses. Participants will examine how maladaptively stored experiences, fear-based learning, and distressing memories may contribute to the development and maintenance of obsessive-compulsive symptoms and phobic avoidance behaviors. The training will review current research regarding EMDR and OCD treatment outcomes while exploring how EMDR may be integrated with evidence-based approaches such as Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP).
Participants will explore practical applications of EMDR for intrusive thoughts, contamination fears, panic responses, avoidance patterns, and trauma-related obsessive symptoms. Ethical considerations, case conceptualization strategies, treatment planning, and clinical limitations within the research literature will also be discussed, including the distinction between trauma-driven obsessive symptoms and primary OCD presentations. Clinicians will leave with practical interventions and integrative approaches for using EMDR with clients experiencing OCD and phobias.
