DESCRIPTION:

This advanced clinical supervision training is designed for clinicians who have completed foundational clinical supervision training and are seeking to deepen their understanding of the relational processes that influence supervision. While foundational supervision training introduces the importance of the supervisory relationship, this course explores the complex relational dynamics that emerge throughout supervision and provides practical strategies for navigating them using the ARC Integrative Supervision Model (Assessment, Response, Context).

Effective supervision is built on the supervisory relationship, yet relational dynamics can complicate learning, feedback, evaluation, and professional development. Supervisees may become defensive, overly dependent, avoid feedback, recreate client dynamics within supervision, or disengage from the supervisory process. Likewise, supervisors may experience frustration, rescue impulses, countertransference, uncertainty, or relational blind spots that influence their supervisory decisions.

Participants will learn to assess and intentionally respond to attachment patterns, supervisory alliance, evaluation anxiety, power dynamics, parallel process, relational ruptures, and repair strategies while maintaining appropriate boundaries, ethical practice, and supervisee development. Through case consultation, guided reflection, and applied supervision scenarios, supervisors will strengthen their ability to recognize relational patterns, make intentional supervisory decisions, and foster supervisory relationships that support supervisee growth and protect client welfare.
