DESCRIPTION:
This advanced clinical supervision training is designed for clinicians who have completed foundational clinical supervision training and are seeking to strengthen their ability to evaluate supervisee competence, implement effective remediation, and fulfill gatekeeping responsibilities. While foundational supervision training introduces evaluation and gatekeeping responsibilities, this course focuses on applying these responsibilities to complex supervision situations using the ARC Integrative Supervision Model (Assessment, Response, Context).
Evaluating supervisee performance requires supervisors to balance support with accountability while protecting client welfare. Distinguishing developmental challenges from performance concerns, determining when remediation is appropriate, and making fair gatekeeping decisions are among the most difficult responsibilities of clinical supervision. Supervisors must also ensure that evaluation, documentation, and due process are consistent, ethical, and professionally defensible.
Participants will learn practical strategies for evaluating supervisee competence, developing individualized remediation plans, documenting performance concerns, and making ethical gatekeeping decisions through case consultation, guided reflection, and applied supervision scenarios. Throughout the course, supervisors will apply the ARC Integrative Supervision Model to make intentional supervisory decisions that support supervisee development, promote fairness, and protect client welfare.
