Ethics in Practice: Technology, Records, and Risk is a practical ethics training designed to help behavioral health professionals navigate today’s most common ethical and legal challenges. Participants will examine ethical considerations related to technology use and online reviews, including appropriate professional responses that protect confidentiality. The training reviews Texas and federal laws governing records requests, confidentiality, and HIPAA compliance, with attention to timelines, documentation, fees, and subpoenas. While Texas statutes are used as primary examples, participants practicing outside of Texas will be encouraged to identify, compare, and apply the corresponding laws and regulations within their own jurisdictions. Using ethical decision-making models, participants will apply standards to real-world scenarios involving advertising and solicitation of reviews, supervisory billing and representation, continuing education dilemmas, and emerging practice risks in modern behavioral health settings.
