Description 

This Continuing Education Unit (CEU) workshop is designed for mental health professionals interested in expanding their therapeutic toolkit by incorporating experiential, adventure-based activities into traditional clinical settings with youth and young adults. Participants will explore the historical development of Adventure-Based Counseling (ABC), gain insight into adapting outdoor activities for indoor or clinical environments, and learn how to facilitate these interventions to enhance client engagement and outcomes. Through hands-on demonstrations and case studies, attendees will leave equipped with practical strategies for integrating ABC into their existing practices, fostering resilience, teamwork, and emotional growth in diverse populations.

Virtual Training Information

  • You may Attend Live or Virtual.
  • If you register for the Virtual Classroom training, make sure you have a good WIFI connection.
  • Your computer will need a camera for you to be visible throughout the entire training to receive the certificate.
  • We will be using Zoom for the training, and I will send you a link by Tuesday evening the week before the training.
  • Please note that during the training there will be one 15-minute break.

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand the Historical Development: Participants will trace the evolution of Adventure-Based Counseling (ABC), recognizing key figures and milestones that have shaped its integration into mental health practices.
  2. Identify Therapeutic Benefits: Attendees will explore the psychological and emotional benefits of incorporating experiential adventure-based activities into traditional counseling.
  3. Facilitate Indoor and Outdoor Activities: Participants will learn to adapt and facilitate ABC activities in both outdoor and traditional clinical settings, ensuring accessibility and effectiveness for diverse client populations.
  4. Apply ABC Techniques in Practice: Attendees will develop practical skills for integrating ABC into their current therapeutic frameworks, enhancing client engagement and treatment outcomes.
