COVID has required many play therapists to rapidly adapt their play therapy sessions into a virtual format at the same time adjustments to work life and personal life were occurring during a pandemic. If you’ve found yourself struggling with fatigue, being overwhelmed, or changes in motivation in your play therapy sessions and personally, this training is for you and will help use 7+ assessments to determine Burnout, Compassion Fatigue, and Self Compassion as a play therapist. Find out the latest research on risk factors along with definitions, symptoms, and assessments of Burnout and Compassion Fatigue and their impact on play therapy sessions. Play therapists will use a self-care assessment to develop a personalized self-care plan to bring the best of you back to your play therapy sessions.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe definitions of Burnout, Secondary Trauma, and Compassion Fatigue and their impact on play therapy sessions
  2. Identify Burnout and Compassion Fatigue symptoms and risk factors that can occur as a play therapy professional or with colleagues
  3. Use 5+ assessments to assess your level of Burnout, Compassion Faituge, and Self Compassion as a play therapy professional
  4. Create your own Self Care Plan to avoid Burnout and Compassion Fatigue in your play therapy work

Dr. Rhonda Johnson, LPC-S, LMFT-S, RPT-S, TBRI Practitioner, EMDR Certified

Dr. Johnson has been working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families in private practice since 1999. Dr. Johnson is the owner of a large group private practice, the Center for Counseling and Family Relationships, which was established in 2007.

She is also the owner of CCFAM Training, established in 2012, specializing as a Live, Virtual, and Online CEU provider with a focus on supervision, Texas Ethics, play therapy, and children who have experienced trauma. Through CCFAM Training, Dr. Johnson also provides private practice coaching and consulting for mental health professionals in leadership and supervisory roles, as well as supervision for LPC, LMFT, and RPT.

Emily Oakes, LPC 

Emily Oakes began her career specializing in elementary education and spent the bulk of her teaching working with gifted and talented students and struggling learners in grades 1 – 8. She pursued her Master of Arts degree in Professional Counseling from Liberty University. Emily has a background working with child victims of abuse along with their families and in non-profit work, where she worked with a wide variety of needs. For the past year, she has been working at a large group private practice, Center for Counseling and Family Relationships, where she has worked with children, teens, adults, parents, and couples. Emily is diligently working towards her Registered Play Therapy Certification and feels that play therapy and parenting are certainly her niche!
