DESCRIPTION

This play therapy training is offered Live In-Person and Virtual via Zoom Platform. Dissociation is a disconnect from emotions, body sensations, thoughts, memories, and/or identity. Dissociation in children is often misunderstood due to their complexity with professionals stating “nothing works with them”. In play therapy, dissociation can look like explosive behavior, clients presenting as “shell shocked”, self-injuring behavior, or bizarre mood and personality shifts. Participants will learn how to assess, have conversations in play therapy about dissociation, and demonstrate skills to work with parts of self in the play room.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Explain how to assess for dissociation in children in play therapy
  2. Discuss how to speak to children and parents about parts of self in play therapy
  3. Demonstrate basic parts work interventions in play therapy
