Struggling to build rapport with treatment-resistant teens?

This training will provide you essential information to establish a firm foundation of rapport with teens. Treatment considerations and common struggles will be addressed. A focus will be given to assessing for expectations (of the caregivers, teens, and the therapist). The training will include five exercises to use in sessions to build rapport along with a live demonstration in the training.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Discuss considerations when building a therapeutic relationship with teens
  2. Identify common struggles encountered with treatment-resistant teens
  3. Assess and plan for expectations of caregivers, teens, and the therapist
  4. Describe five rapport-building resources

Cristina Alvarez joined the Center for Counseling and Family Relationships in 2018. She earned her Master’s of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Cristina became Licensed as a Professional Counselor in 2018. Her background includes counseling in a private university setting where she helped college students cope and adapt with life transitions and as a crisis counselor for children in schools.
